  • Tesla will finally reveal its purpose-built robotaxi on October 10, according to a report from Bloomberg.

  • Based on previous comments by CEO Elon Musk, the robotaxi will be fully autonomous and will not have a steering wheel or pedals.

  • The robotaxi is set to be operated via a new Tesla-run ride-hailing service, Bloomberg also reported.

The long-awaited Tesla robotaxi may finally rear its head in a month's time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted at the car for years, originally claiming it would launch in 2020 before constantly pushing back its arrival. Now, according to a report from Bloomberg, the robotaxi will be unveiled on October 10 at an event at the Warner Bros. Discovery movie studio in Burbank, California. Bloomberg said it spoke with "people familiar with the matter" who wished to remain anonymous.

Not many details are known about the robotaxi, which will be purpose-built for ride-hailing and autonomous driving and will use Tesla's Autopilot and Full Self-Driving software systems. In 2022 Musk said the robotaxi will not feature a steering wheel and pedals. He has also referred to the vehicle as the "Cybercab," leading some to believe that its design may be inspired by the Cybertruck. Tesla is also said to be creating its own ride-hailing app, with the service utilizing both the fleet of upcoming robotaxis as well as consumer cars.

The Tesla robotaxi was originally set to be revealed on August 8, but the event was delayed after Musk requested a change in design, Bloomberg reported in July. The publication's anonymous sources also said that Tesla needed extra time to build additional prototypes to use for demonstrations at the event. Check back next month for full details of the Tesla robotaxi, presuming Tesla finally follows through on the reveal.
